Floral design that begins in the garden…
The garden
My floral inspiration comes from the cutting garden where I grow flowers year round (I have greenhouse for overwintering early spring blooms such as ranunculus, sweet peas and delphinium). Every wedding or event begins with a few days of early morning harvests, picking the best of what is blooming before it goes into the cooler. In addition to annual row cropped flowers I have a thriving jungle of perennial plants which I have collected and sown over the years. These plants provide flowers, greenery and seed pods that are impossible to buy commercially, but add so much life and interest to my arrangments.
When I book a wedding I am able to plant for you - tayloring my garden’s timing and planting schedule to your color pallete, so I will have an abundance of flowers that fit your vision during your wedding month.
Sustainability
Sourcing and Mechanics
I source all other flowers I use in designs from local farms, and feel good about supporting small farms in Mendocino and Sonoma counties who are taking care of the soil and land they steward. This means your flowers are chemical free and havn’t flown accross half the globe by the time they are in your bouquet! I will occasionally make an exception for a client with a particular vision, but working with entirely seasonal flowers is very important to me.
I also will never use floral foam in any designs. This has been industry standard but now many florists are moving away from it due to environmental concerns. All my flowers are arrangmed with reusable chicken wire, pin frogs, and water tubes - a bit more effort but at the end of an event I am able to bring everything home to add to my compost pile instead of the trash can.
